Apologies & Hairology

Apologies- First of all, as instigator of this blog, I would like to apologize on behalf of a certain someone who finds real life school work more important than contributing to the blog. We have missed out on a day of opportunity, a day of relishing Jem, and sadly, only two posts into it. If I could time travel, I would.I am taking it upon myself to post what should have happened yesterday.
Hairology-
Now, we all know in our hearts that the intense hair colors displayed on the characters in Jem are merely a reflection of the '80s, but for a fun twist, could there be a deeper meaning to each characters hair color? I set off to the web to investigate.

Jem. Pink.
Pink is the symbol of love and beauty. I think we can all see the natural correlations there. The show authors want everyone to love Jem and therefore love the show. And beauty, well, they again obviously want to display Jem as the most beautiful and desirable, the one all girls should aspire to.

Aja. Blue.
Blue
symbolizes youth, spirituality, and peace. I think Aja could definitely be considered a peacemaker
in the Holograms, certainly one who has a calm and serene energy about her.

Kimber. Red.
Red is a symbol of boldness, strength, anger, desire, and determination, Hello, Kimber. She has to be strong to be Jem's younger sister, dealing with being over
shadowed. She's definitely the one who throws the most temper tantrums (anger), and she
has the boldness, combined with desire and determination, to question the hierarchical power of the group.

Shana. Purple.
Purple is associated with dignity and ambition.
One can certainly agree that Shana holds her head up high as the most ethnically different in the group, and as we shall see in later episodes, she is a
ambitious towards personal pursuits.

Rio. Dark Purple.
While it is
true that Shana and Rio both have purple hair, it must be noted that Shana's is a blue-violet, while Rio's is a red-violet. Thus, Shana combines the qualities of purple and blue (mentioned with Aja) and Rio combines the qualities of purple and red (mentioned with Kimber). I believe with Rio we see a lack of dignity, or certainly deteriorating dignity (in that he kisses both Jerrica and Jem). And it certainly could be considered... 'ambitious' to be pursuing two girls. Especially two girls who work so....closely.... together. As far as the red's contribution, I think we can all agree Rio has anger and possession issues.
Pizzazz. Green.
Although I'm not honestly sure I can defiantly label it as green. It varies from a light yellow, to a yellow-green, to green-yellow in each episode. For the sake of this post, we'll call it green. Green is a symbol of harmony and corresponds to safety. Pizzazz is quite the opposite. Perhaps it was a joke... For Pizzazz is often the instigator of trouble, and no one should feel safe around her.

Stormer. Blue.

Another attribute to blue is that artist use it to create depth, and in later episodes we will find that Stormer does have some depth to her, and it certainly can be said she is the most peaceful of the misfits.

Roxy. White.
White is the symbol goodness and innocence. I think this is another stark contrast. While Pizzazz might be the er... 'brains'... behind their mischief, Roxy is certainly the meanest and toughest of the Misfits, and is anything but innocent. "Stay Outta This Girl's Way".
